Nelson Lumber and Construction (NLC) was established in 1949 by the Nelson family which arrived in the Skagit Valley at the turn of the Century from Sweden. NLC was originally founded as a Lumber Yard in La Conner, Washington selling Forestry Products harvested from the surrounding Skagit Valley and Cascade Mountains. Later the business was diversified into construction in the 1950’s and ‘Construction’ was added to the name. The Lumber Yard was eventually sold to concentrate on building in Snohomish County and later King County and the San Juan Islands. The business has been in continuous operation since 1949 including the financial crisis between 2008-2010, when NLC was restructured and survived with the cooperation of its partners, suppliers, and employees. The Company continues today as an affordable, quality builder focused on custom homes, multi family, commercial, and renovations. NLC has worked with award winning architects, regional developers, public sector organizations as well as home owners and has long standing relationships with established service providers, suppliers, and subcontractors. NLC is currently managed by the 3rd generation owner, Gary Nelson and his family, and remains 100% family owned.
